Technical efficiency and its determinants in watermelon production in Adana Province, Turkey

This study explores the technical efficiency of watermelon farms and their determinants, using the stochastic production frontier function, in the province of Adana in Turkey. The purpose of this analysis was to determine the cost of production and the technical efficiency of watermelon farms. Data of this study were collected from 69 randomly selected watermelon farmers. The results found that the unit production cost of watermelon was $0.10 kg(-1) and that labor costs accounted for the greatest share of the total cost. The findings show that technical efficiency coefficients varied from 0.45 to 1.00 in watermelon farms and the average was 0.82. As for the average farm, the intake of inputs at the same value may be 18% lower. Farm inefficiencies are usually triggered rather than spontaneous by preventable technological causes. There have been findings of farmers expanding their farming size, not only reducing input use but regulating off-farm influences, to enjoy the economy of production. In addition to the government's agriculture insurance programs and policies, their technical efficiencies in the study field should be increased.

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN COVID-19 BURNOUT AND THE MORAL SENSITIVITY OF HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS

This study aimed to examine the relationship between the burnout of physicians and nurses and their moral sensitivity during the pandemic. This was a descriptive and correlational study. This study was carried out with physicians and nurses who were continuing to work actively during the pandemic. Snowboard sampling method was utilized. The total mean score of the participants on the MSQ was 90.78 +/- 19.10. The total mean score of the COVID-19 Burnout Scale was 34.52 +/- 9.65. A statistically weak and significant correlation was found between the COVID-19 Burnout Scale and the MSQ total score, as well as the benefit and conflict sub-dimensions. It was determined that as MSQ total scores, benefit and conflict scores decreased in healthcare workers, COVID-19 burnout scores increased. In our study, the moral sensitivity of the participants was found to be moderate, and their burnout levels were found to be high. Although there was a weak relationship, it was observed that burnout levels increased as moral sensitivity levels increased. It is crucial that we learn from pandemic experiences and transfer this knowledge to future generations. In particular, we must assimilate these important lessons into training in order to develop and protect the moral sensitivity of healthcare professionals.
Quality of Life Gains for Special Athletes in the Turkish Athletics Championship: A Study on Parent Perspectives (2023)

This study examines the effects of sports involvement on the well-being of individuals with Down Syndrome who participated in the 2022 Turkish Athletics Championship, as reported by their parents. The championship was organised by the Turkish Special Athletes Sports Federation. Using a qualitative case study design, we thoroughly explore individual experiences, perceptions, and the current situation. Criterion sampling, a method of purposeful sampling, was employed to select participants. The participants were selected using purposive criterion sampling. Information on life changes for the athletes was gathered through semi -structured interviews, which were later transcribed and analysed using content analysis. Five main themes were identified: Physical Development, Social Development, Emotional Development, Psycho -Social Health, and Family Life Satisfaction. The focus was on highlighting the enhancements in family dynamics, shared experiences, and the overall well-being of the family. The study demonstrates that engagement in the championship had a significant impact on the athletes' overall well-being and family satisfaction, underscoring the importance of sports in their lives.
