Does the high sulfur content in apricots affect oxidative stress? Running title: Effect of sulfur amount on oxidative stress
(2022) Otlu, Önder; KIRAN, TUGBA RAIKA; Gül, Mehmet; Önal, Yunus; ÇOLAK, Cemil; karabulut, aysun bay
Apricots are one of the most important fruits that can be produced worldwide. Most of the importer countries are sensitive about sulfur which is used in the protection of dried apricots. The objective of this study was to compare the effects of feeding with high and low sulfur content apricots on oxidative stress parameters of the liver. In total, 42 Wistar albino rats were fed for 12 weeks with the use of dried apricots containing different amounts of sulfur and sun-dried apricots. There was no significant difference in IL-1?, 8-OHdG and TOS levels between the control group and the group fed with sun dried apricots. There was no statistically significant difference between the groups fed with low and high sulfur-containing apricots.Non-necrotic changes were observed in 3000 ppm and 4000ppm groups in microscopic examination. No significant effect of feeding with sulfur treated apricots was found in the liver tissues of rats.

Obtaining activated-carbon from Zivzik (Siirt) pomegranate waste by chemical activation and model dye adsorption
(Malatya Turgut Özal Üniversitesi, 2020) Kuyucu, Ali; Selçuk, Ahmet; Önal, Yunus
In this study, activated carbon, obtained from Zivzik Pomegrate (Siirt-TURKEY), has been used as adsorbent matter. The activated-carbon has been prepared with chemical activation using ZnC12. BET surface area has been measured as 1513.05 m2 /g. Methylene Blue and Crystal Violet have been used as dyestuffs. It has been investigated the effect of initial pH, initial dye concentration and temperature on adsorption. Four different initials concentrations have been used for both dyestuffs. It has been observed that the initial pH does not affect the adsorption capacity. The compatibility with four different adsorption isotherms has been investigated and it is approved that it fits the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. For both dyes; RL value, which is the dimensionless separation factor found using KL value from Langmuir parameters, was found to be 0.001. This result shows that the adsorption process is efficient. Also, it was seen that the correlation factor R2 for both dyes calculated from the graph drawn according to the Langmuir isotherm has a high value such as 0,999. Three different kinetic models (the pseudo first order model, the pseudo second order model and the Elovich equation) have been investigated by doing experimental studies at three different temperatures with different initial concentrations. Correlation coefficient R2 is; for Methylene Blue 0.99 and for Crystal Violet 0.99. Since the qe values calculated with the experimental qe values are compatible with each other, it was observed that our study is more suitable for the Pseudo 2nd Order Kinetic model. The entropy (?S ?) values are 51.717 J/molK for Methylene Blue and 70.817 J/molK for Crystal Violet, respectively. The positive values of ?S ?reflect the affinity of adsorbent material towards Methylene Blue and Crystal Violet. In addition, it has been observed that adsorption is reversible and endothermic

St. John's Wort (Hyperıcum Perforatum L.) Flower Based Carbon/Graphene Quantum Dot Structure Productıon And Characterızatıon For Bıoımagıng And Drug Delıvery Systems
(2021-11-02) Karaca Açarı, İdil; Önal, Yunus
In this study, it was aimed to obtain carbon and graphene quantum dot structures from St. John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum L.) flowers, originating from the city of Hatay. Hypericum perforatum L. flower sample was subjected to carbonization at different temperatures such as 200, 225 and 250 ? for the desired quantum dot structure yields. It has been observed that the best radiation after carbonization is at 250 ?. Fourier transform infrared spectrometer, X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy techniques were used to determine the structural characterizations and surface morphology, respectively. The UV radiation of Hypericum perforatum L. flower-based carbon and graphene quantum structures was followed at 365 nm and the blue glow was observed very clearly. With this study, quantum and graphene dot structures based on Hypericum perforatum L. flower have been introduced to the literature for the first time. In addition, the quantum dot structures with blue radiation obtained within the scope of the study will be an alternative reference for many bioimaging and drug delivery system studies.
