Biophysical Changes in Elderly Individuals and Post-Disaster Effects

ABSTRACT This study aims to examine the effects of biophysical changes that occur with aging in elderly individuals after disasters and to shed light on the difficulties faced by these individuals in disaster situations from a biophysical perspective. Aging involves continuous and inevitable physical changes affected by many factors such as genetic structure, nutrition, living conditions, socioeconomic status, climate, culture, family and health status. In recent years, the increase in the elderly population worldwide and especially in Turkey has become an important component of the demographic structure. Biological changes that occur during the aging process can lead to serious health problems after disasters. This study addresses the biophysical challenges faced by elderly individuals after disasters and provides recommendations to develop strategies for the special needs of elderly individuals in disaster management and health services planning.
