Öğe An alternative treatment method for defective pseudoarthrosis(ARSMB-KVBMG Avenue W. Churchill-laan 11/30 Brussels B-1180, 2016) Uraş, Ismail; Yavuz, Osman Yüksel; Uygun, Murat; Paslioglu, Ebubekir; Kömürcü, MahmutPseudoarthrosis with bone loss is one of the most challenging orthopaedic problems for surgeons. Bone loss usually leads to technical difficulties during surgery due to instability in the fracture area. Eight patients with pseudoarthrosis of different long bones were operated on by the same surgeon. The median age was 53 years (25-61), and the median time period after the index operation was 21 months (12-72 months). Radiographic union was achieved in all patients in 3.62 months (2-5 months). Efficient healing with new bone formation was observed in all of the patients. The result of the current case series is promising. This treatment method can be used for the treatment of pseudoarthrosis without increasing morbidity. Long-term follow-up and larger case series are needed for evidence of the adequacy and reliability of this method of treatment. © 2016 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.Öğe Efect of Ankaferd Blood Stopper on muscle healing(The Canadian Society for Clinical Investigation, 2016) Uygun, Murat; Yavuz, Osman Yüksel; Uraş, Ismail; Duman, İbrahim Gökhan; Haltaş, Hacer; Kömürcü, MahmutPurpose: Ankaferd Blood Stopper (ABS), which is a standardized mixture of herbal extracts obtained from fve plants, has been proven as an efcient hemostatic agent and is still used in emergency situations. It is not known exactly if decreased bleeding has positive or negative efects on muscle healing and fbrosis, so the purpose of this study was to test the efect of ABS on muscle healing and morphology. Methods: A total of 66 outbred Wistar rats were divided into three control and three experimental subgroups. In the experimental groups, ABS was sprayed on the cut surface of the soleus. In the control groups, a saline solution was sprayed on the cut surface of the soleus. Subgroups were euthanized afer 2 weeks, 3 weeks and 4 weeks, respectively. In each subgroup, eight rats were used for the biomechanical study to determine muscle healing and three rats were used for the histopathological investigation. Results: Although muscle strength in the control groups was lower than that of the experimental groups in early weeks, no diferences were found between the control and the experimental groups at 4 weeks. Conclusions: ABS has no negative efect on muscle healing. We also observed that ABS accelerated muscle healing compared to the control group. ABS could be used in hemostasis of open fractures and elective orthopedic surgeries. © 2021 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.Öğe Index finger pollicization for treating a congenitally nonfunctioning thumb in patients with radial longitudinal deficiency(Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi Eastern Journal of Medicine Van 65100, 2014) Kömürcü, Mahmut; Yüce, Serdar; Yavuz, Osman Yüksel; Uraş, Ismail; Uygun, Murat; Kürklü, MustafaRadial longitudinal deficiency (radial club hand) is a congenital deformity in the upper extremity that can present with a range of thumb deficiencies. A variety of surgical procedures to correct for absence of a thumb have been described, such as pollicization, osteoplastic reconstruction, toe to hand transfer, and extension with distraction. We have reviewed 8 index finger pollicizations in 6 patients after correction of the radial club hand deformity through wrist centralization. Four hands used were the dominant hand. Buck-Gramcko’s technique was used with a mean age of 4.6 (range from 2 to 14) years. The mean follow-up time was 6 (range from 2 to 10) years. The mean active range of motion at the pollicized digit was 121.4 (range from 83 to 150) degrees. The result was considered excellent in 5 cases (62.5%), good in 2 cases (25%), and fair in 1 case (12.5%) in accordance with Percival’s scoring system; none of the outcomes were poor. The younger patients adapted easier. Index finger pollicization is a method that provides dramatic improvement to hand function in thumb aplasia or severe hypoplasia, which may be preferred in treatment. The operations improved hand cosmetic appearance and functional ability. © 2017 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.Öğe The importance of individual learning styles in physiotherapy students(Turkish Physical Therapy Association yyakut@haceteppe.edu.tr, 2014) Parlak Demir, Yasemin; Buran Cirak, Yasemin; Yilmaz y, Gül Deniz; Dalkilinç, Murat; Kömürcü, MahmutPurpose: Individual multidimensional characteristics of each student should be investigated in order to understand the information acquisition and processing styles while determining and evaluating their subjective learning styles. Since being practice-based and multidisciplinary in nature, physiotherapy education involves different competencies and skills than other health professions. Therefore, it is far important to identify the learning styles of students. The aim of this study was to investigate learning styles of the physiotherapy students and so, developing recommendations for effective and efficient physiotherapy education. Method: Individual learning styles of 63 undergraduate level physiotherapy students were determined by using 44 variables of The Turkish Version of Learning Styles Questionnaire which was developed by Barbara A. Soloman and Richard M. Felder. In the survey, there are 11 variables in each of the four sub-parameters: processing knowledge (active-reflective), knowledge detection (sensing-intuitive), data input (visual-verbal), and knowledge comprehension (sequential-global). Results: In active/reflective category, 33.3% of the students were found to be extrovert-balanced and 31.7% introvert-balanced. In sensitive/intensive category, 44.4% of the students were found to be sensitive moderate. 39.7% of the students were found to be visual moderate. In sequential/global category 41.3% of the students were found to be sequential moderate. Discussion: Results of moderate and balanced preferences show that physiotherapy students can learn more easily if educational settings were made according to the preferences into four categories "reflective, sensitive, visual and sequential". In other words, physiotherapy education which is designed by taking these four dimensions (reflective, sensitive, visual and sequential) into consideration will be more significant for physiotherapy students. © 2014 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
