Determining job satisfaction and job stress levels of nurses during the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic: A cross-sectional survey
    (2022) KAYAOĞLU, Kübra; ASLANOĞLU, Eren
This study aims to determine the job satisfaction and job stress experienced by nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic. This descriptive study was conducted with 129 nurses working in a pandemic hospital in a province in eastern Turkey. This study was carried out between June 2021 and January 2022, after obtaining ethical committee approval. \"Nurse Information Form\", \"Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ)\", and \"Perceived Job Stress Scale (PJSS)\" was used to collect the data. The data were collected by the researchers using the online data collection method. Besides descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation, frequency), Mann-Whitney U Test, Kruskal Wallis-H Test, and Spearman’s Correlation Analysis were used in the data assessment, and significance was evaluated at the level of p <0.05. It was found that the mean scores of the nurses were 3.07±0.82 for overall MSQ, 2.17±0.35 for the subscale of Intrinsic Satisfaction and 2.10±0.46 for the subscale of Extrinsic Satisfaction. They obtained a total mean score of 3.27±0.82 from the Perceived Job Stress Scale. A significant negative correlation was found between job satisfaction and job stress experienced by the nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was found that during the pandemic, the nurses had a high level of job stress and a moderate level of job satisfaction. As their job stress increased, their job satisfaction decreased. In line with these results, attention should be paid to the mental status of nurses, and job stress management training should be given to obtain job satisfaction and reduce job stress.

Determining the Relationship Between Quality of Life and Perceived Stress in Liver Transplant Patients Receiving Immunosuppression Therapy
    (2024) KAYAOĞLU, Kübra; Çakır, Hatice
Objective: This study was conducted to evaluate the relationship between quality of life and perceived stress in liver transplant patients receiving immunosuppression therapy. Materials and Methods: This study is a cross-sectional study with the participation of 124 liver transplant patients hospitalized in the liver transplantation center of a university hospital. Results: The results of the correlation analysis between the perceived stress scale (PSS) and the 36-item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) subscales of the participants: A negative and weak significant relationship was found between physical function, physical role difficulty, emotional role difficulty, energy/vitality, social functioning, general health perception, and pain sub-dimensions (r=-0.209 and -0.480). A negative, moderate and significant relationship was found between PSS and the mental health sub-dimension (r=-0.563). As a result of the regression analysis, the effect of the PSS total score average on SF-36 sub-dimensions was examined, and it was found that it had the highest and negative effect on the mental health sub-dimension with a rate of 31.7% (R2=.317; B=-1.962; p

Effect of Mindfulness on Treatment Motivation in Patients with Substance Use Disorder
(2024) TANRIKULU, ALİ BARAN; KAYAOĞLU, Kübra
Objective: This research aimed to assess the mindfulness levels among individuals with substance use disorder (SUD) and investigate its influence on treatment motivation. Method: A descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out involving 184 SUD patients. Data collection utilized a Personal Information Form, The Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS), and the Treatment Motivation Questionnaire (TMQ). Results: A strong positive correlation was identified between MAAS and TMQ levels (r: 0.796, p<0.001). Furthermore, the mindfulness predictor variable was found to account for 63% of the variance in the treatment motivation predicted variable (R2: 0.632, p<0.001). The Beta coefficient of the predictor variable in the regression model was 0.795, indicating a significant positive impact of mindfulness on treatment motivation (p<0.001). Conclusion: The study revealed that the conscious awareness levels of participants were below average, suggesting that conscious awareness may be a suitable target for SUD treatment. Additionally, individuals with high mindfulness exhibited elevated treatment motivation, emphasizing the importance of incorporating mindfulness-enhancing practices in clinics for individuals with SUD.

Prevalence and determinants of probable posttraumatic stress disorder among university students eight months after the 2023 Kahramanmaras earthquake doublet
(2024) TANRIKULU, ALİ BARAN; KAYAOĞLU, Kübra
Objective: The devastating Kahramanmaras earthquake doublet struck with a magnitude of Mw 7.8 and Mw 7.7, occurring 9 hours apart on February 6, 2023. Earthquakes can cause significant psychological impacts. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and determinants of probable post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among university students eight months following the 2023 earthquake doublet in Kahramanmaras, Turkiye. Method: Convenience sampling was used to recruit participants. The study included 445 university students who completed a detailed questionnaire about the 2023 Turkiye-Syria earthquakes, along with the PTSD checklist for the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5, PCL-5). Researchers prepared the questionnaire to evaluate pre-earthquake psychiatric history, behavioral reactions during and after the earthquake, experiences of being trapped under rubble, physical injury status, extent of property damage, and loss of loved ones through face-to-face interviews. Results: According to the PCL-5 scores, 61.6% of the participants exhibited probable earthquake-related PTSD. Factors associated with a higher prevalence of probable earthquake-related PTSD included being female, having severe house damage, pre-existing psychiatric conditions, and a history of traumatic events. Only 26.5% of the participants were in a safer location outside buildings during the second earthquake. Conclusion: A total of 274 subjects (61.6%) were diagnosed with probable earthquake-related PTSD eight months after the 2023 Kahramanmaras earthquake. The determinants linked to a probable PTSD diagnosis were severe house damage, preexisting psychiatric conditions, a history of traumatic events, and being female. These findings enhance our understanding of probable earthquake-related PTSD, its associated risk factors, and underscore the importance of taking preventive measures to mitigate the psychological impacts of earthquakes.
