Öğe Adaptation of the New Generation Science Standards Questionnaire to Turkish: A Validity and Reliability Study(Süleyman Nihat ŞAD, 2022) Gürkan, Gülşah; Kahraman, Sibel[Abstract Not Available]Öğe Biyoteknoloji Eğitimi Alanındaki Makalelerin Web of Science Veri Tabanına Dayalı Bibliyometrik Analizi(Malatya Turgut Özal Üniversitesi, 2021) Gürkan, Gülşah; Kahraman, SibelBu çalışmada, biyoteknoloji eğitimi alanında yayınlanan bilimsel makalelerin bibliyometrik göstergeler açısından analizi yapılarak alandaki eğilimlerin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaçla biyoteknoloji eğitimi alanında yapılan bibliyometrik analiz ile 1998-2021 yılları arasında yayınlanan 81 makaledeki eğilimler ortaya konmuştur. Web of Science (WoS) veri tabanında “biotechnology”, “genetic engineering” modified organisms”, “cloning” and “biotechnology education” anahtar kelime grupları kullanılarak tarama yapılmıştır. Çalışmada verileri analiz etmek amacıyla VOSviewer programı kullanılarak yıllara göre yayın sayıları, yayınların dergilere göre dağılımı, yayın yapan en aktif beş dergi, yıllara göre makalelere yapılan atıf sayısı, en fazla atıf alan beş çalışma, biyoteknoloji eğitiminde en fazla yayın yapan ilk 20 ülke, bibliyografik eşleştirmenin ülkelere ve dokümanlara dayalı ağ haritalaması, atıfların yazarlara, dokümanlara ve üniversitelere dayalı ağ haritalaması, çalışmaların ortak atıf bakımından alıntı yapılan kaynaklara dayalı ağ haritalaması, çalışmaların ortak yazarlık bakımından yazarlara ve üniversitelere dayalı ağ haritalaması ve atıfların ülkelere dayalı ağ haritalaması incelenmiştir. Yapılan çalışmada bibliyometrik analiz kullanılmasının biyoteknoloji eğitimi ile ilgili yapılan çalışmaları betimleyeceğinden bilimsel üretime bir bakış açısı sağlayacağı ve alandaki eğilimleri belirleyeceği düşünülmektedir.Öğe Examining the Relationship Between Health Literacy and Vaccine Hesitancy: The Case of Prospective Science Teachers(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2026) Yozkat, Gokhan; Gurkan, Gulsah; Kahraman, SibelVaccine hesitancy refers to the reluctance or refusal to get vaccinated. This can be influenced by various factors, including concerns about vaccine safety, distrust of healthcare systems, misinformation circulating on social media, cultural beliefs, and inadequate health literacy. The aim of this study is to determine whether there is any relationship between vaccine hesitancy and health literacy of prospective science teachers. The sample of the study consists of 165 students studying at the faculty of education of a state university. It was observed that there was a low-level negative relationship between health literacy and vaccine hesitancy. The study shows that higher health literacy reduces vaccine hesitancy. Since teachers have responsibilities in improving the health literacy levels of society, the health literacy levels of teacher candidates need to be increased.Öğe Permaculture as a System for Sustainable Life: Attitudes of Prospective Science Teachers From Eastern Anatolia (Turkey)(Sciendo, 2025) Saglik, Zeliha; Gurkan, Gulsah; Kahraman, SibelPermaculture is a concept that can greatly contribute to sustainable living. It refers to a design-oriented system that aims to organize human settlements in a sustainable manner. Science teachers can contribute to the dissemination of permaculture through education by playing a critical role in conveying environmental awareness and sustainability issues to students. Considering the role of science teachers in creating awareness towards permaculture, this study aims to investigate the attitudes of prospective science teachers towards permaculture. To determine the permaculture attitudes of prospective science teachers, the 40-question 5-point Likert-type Permaculture Attitude Scale developed by Ozcalik and Yorubulut (2022) has been used as a data collection tool. The scale has been applied to 164 prospective teachers studying at the Science Teaching Department of the Faculty of Education of a state university. According to the data obtained from the scale applied to prospective science teachers, the average general attitude score is 3.83. This value indicates that prospective science teachers have a positive attitude towards permaculture. Also, a significant difference has been found between the permaculture attitudes of prospective science teachers according to their gender, and this difference is in favor of female prospective teachers. Additionally, a significant difference has been observed based on their place of upbringing, with those who grew up in districts exhibiting more positive attitudes than those who grew up in villages. Permaculture attitudes of prospective science teachers do not show any significant difference according to the family income level and residence type. Based on these findings, it is recommended that further studies be conducted on different sample groups to explore prospective teachers' attitudes towards permaculture and the variables affecting their awareness of sustainable living. © 2025 Zeliha Saglik et al., published by Sciendo.Öğe Trends of the last 20 years of Postgraduate Theses in the Field of Science Education related to Biotechnological concepts in Turkey: A Content Analysis(2022) Gürkan, Gülşah; Kahraman, SibelThis study presents a descriptive content analysis of the research trends of postgraduate theses conducted in the field of science education on biotechnological concepts in Turkey between 2000-2020. In line with the aim of the study, 65 postgraduate theses in total were examined by searching the database of the Council of Higher Education (CoHE) National Thesis Center. In this study using document analysis, one of the qualitative research designs, theses were analyzed according to years, universities, study subjects, concepts, methods, data collection tools, sampling, and sample size. The results showed that theses were predominantly master's theses, postgraduate theses conducted in the field of science education on biotechnological concepts were carried out in a total of 27 universities, and theses were mainly conducted at Gazi University, Inonu University, and Bolu Abant Izzet Baysal University. Regarding the subject distribution, it was seen that theses were mainly written on the attitudes, perceptions, and interests of middle school, high school, and university students and teachers concerning biotechnology and were teaching- and learning-oriented. Furthermore, it was concluded that quantitative approaches were mostly used in the examined theses, and experimental designs among quantitative research methods were preferred more than non- experimental designs. As data collection tools, mostly skill, attitude, perception, personality, etc. tests, achievement tests, Likert-type questionnaires, and semi-structured interviews were used, and it was observed that the most preferred sample group was university and high school students and the sample size was mostly between 101-300 and 31-100. Based on the study results, it can be suggested that researchers conduct more studies on biotechnology-related subjects using different samples and scales.
