Analyzing the Relationship Between Self-Efficacy in Protecting Against Substance Use and Loneliness in Adolescents A Cross-Sectional Survey
(Slack Inc, 2024) Kayaoglu, Kubra; Ozer, Duygu
PURPOSE: To analyze the relationship between self -efficacy in protecting against substance use and loneliness in adolescents. METHOD: This descriptive, cross-sectional study comprised 400 adolescents. A Sociodemographic Data Form, Self -Efficacy for Adolescents Protecting Against Substance Abuse Scale (SEAPSAS), and Short -Form UCLA Loneliness Scale (ULS-8) were used for data collection. Regression analysis and Pearson correlation analysis, as well as descriptive statistics, were used in data analysis. RESULTS: Mean ULS-8 total score was 17.94 (SD = 5.07) and mean SEAPSAS total score was 68.78 (SD = 17.59). A weak significant negative relationship was found between mean ULS-8 total score and mean SEAPSAS subdimensions and total score. As a result of regression analysis, it was determined that ULS-8 total score negatively affected mean SEAPSAS total score by 24.9% (R-2 = 0.249; B = -1.713; p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Loneliness in adolescents, which was observed to negatively impact self -efficacy in protecting against substance use, should be addressed by psychiatric nurses through prevention activities and support programs and services, such as early detection and intervention.

Effect of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy-Based Anger Management Training on Anger and Aggression Levels of Individuals Convicted of Violent Crimes
(Slack Inc, 2024) Kayaoglu, Kubra; Kose, Mustafa
PURPOSE: To determine the effect of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT)-based anger management training on anger and aggression levels of individuals convicted of violent crimes. METHOD: This study was a randomized controlled trial conducted in a prison. Seventy-two individuals who met inclusion criteria were included in the study sample. The experimental group received 10 sessions of CBT-based anger management therapy over a 5-week period. RESULTS: After CBT-based anger management training, mean total score and mean subdimension scores of the Trait Anger and Anger Expression Style Scale of the experimental group decreased significantly compared to the control group. Similarly, Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire total mean score and mean subdimension scores of the experimental group significantly decreased compared to the control group. CONCLUSION: Results demonstrate that CBT-based anger management training effectively reduces anger and aggression levels among individuals convicted of violent crimes. In this regard, it is recommended that forensic psychiatric-mental health nurses, physicians, and psychologists working in correctional institutions apply CBT-based anger management training. Evaluation of metacognition, difficulties in emotion regulation and addiction severity levels of individuals diagnosed with substance use disorder
(Taylor & Francis Inc, 2025) Ozer, Duygu; Altun, Ozlem Sahin; Kayaoglu, Kubra; Tanrikulu, Ali Baran
Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between metacognition, difficulties in emotion regulation, and level of addiction severity in individuals with substance use disorder. Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out with 121 participants at the Alcohol and Drug Addicts Treatment and Research Center between February and June 2023. The data were collected using the Metacognition Questionnaire-30 (MTQ-30), Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale-Brief Form (DERS-16), and Addiction Profile Index (API). Results: All the participants were male and polysubstance users; the age of the onset of substance use was 16.43 +/- 5.95; they had been receiving treatment for addiction for an average of 1.79 +/- 2.16 years. There was a strong positive significant correlation between the mean total MTQ-30 score and the mean total DERS-16 and API scores (r = .704, p < .001; r = .776, p < .001) and a moderate positive significant correlation between the mean total DERS-16 score and the mean total API score (r = .628, p < .001). It was determined that metacognition had an effect at a rate of 60.3% and difficulty in emotion regulation had an effect at a rate of 39.5% on the addiction severity of individuals. Conclusion: Addiction severity was found to increase as the levels of metacognitive impairment and difficulty in emotion regulation increased.

Evaluation of self-control, psychological resilience and addiction severity levels of individuals diagnosed with substance use disorder
(W B Saunders Co-Elsevier Inc, 2026) Kayaoglu, Kubra; Okanli, Ayse
This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between self-control, psychological resilience, and level of addiction severity in individuals with substance use disorder (SUD). This cross-sectional study was carried out with 129 participants at the Alcohol and Drug Addicts Treatment and Research Center. The data were collected using the Brief Self-Control Scale (BSCS), Brief Resilience Scale (BRS), and Addiction Profile Index (API). All the participants were male and polysubstance users. Although no statistically significant relationship was found between BRS and API, there was a low negative relationship between BSCS and API levels (r:-250, p < 0.01). Simple regression analysis was performed to determine the effect of individuals' self-control on addiction severity and the established model was found to be significant (F: 8.466, p: 0.000). The R2 value, stated as the explanatory power of the model, was calculated to be 0.062. Accordingly, it is seen that the self-control predictor variable explains 6.2 % of the variance in the addiction severity predicted variable (R2: 0.062). It was determined that individuals with SUDs had low self-control and moderate psychological resilience, and most of them had low addiction severity. It has been found that as the level of self-control increases, the severity of addiction decreases. This study suggests that self-control enhancing interventions for individuals with SUD will positively contribute to the treatment process.

Evaluation of the Effects of Psychological Well-Being and Sexual Life Quality on Marital Adjustment in Married Women
(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2026) Kayaoglu, Kubra; Demir, Bilsev
Psychological well-being and sexual quality of life are important determinants of marital adjustment, yet their combined influence has been understudied. This study evaluated the effects of these factors on marital adjustment among 334 married women. Using a descriptive cross-sectional design, data were collected via online and face-to-face surveys employing the Sociodemographic Data Form, Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWBS), Sexual Quality of Life-Female (SQOL-F), and Marital Adjustment Test (MAT). Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression analyses were performed. The mean scores were PWBS = 28.72 +/- 8.03, SQOL-F = 42.87 +/- 8.74, and MAT = 43.50 +/- 7.02. Marital adjustment was moderately correlated with psychological well-being (r = 0.490, p < 0.05) and sexual quality of life (r = 0.320, p < 0.05). Multiple regression analysis indicated that psychological well-being and sexual quality of life together explained 22% of the variance in marital adjustment (R2 = 0.222), with psychological well-being as the stronger predictor. These findings highlight the critical role of individual psychological health in marital dynamics. Incorporating strategies to enhance psychological well-being and sexual health into clinical practice and family counseling may improve marital adjustment and overall relational well-being.

Evaluation of the relationship between food addiction and depression, anxiety, and stress in university students: A cross-sectional survey
(Wiley, 2023) Kayaoglu, Kubra; Gokustun, Kerim Kaan; Ay, Eda
PurposeThis study was conducted to determine the relationship between food addiction (FA) and depression, anxiety, and stress (DAS) in university students. Design and MethodsThe research was conducted with 362 university students who met the study criteria and volunteered to participate in the study. The study data were collected using a personal information form, the modified Yale food addiction scale 2.0 (mYFAS 2.0), and the depression, anxiety, and stress scale (DASS-21). FindingsIt was determined that 40% of the students participating in the study had FA. The mean score of students with FA on the DASS-21 scale was determined as 25.90 +/- 14.56 and the scores they received from the anxiety, depression, and stress subdimension as (8.14 +/- 5.57, 9.04 +/- 5.46, 8.72 +/- 5.60, respectively). The scores of students without FA from the anxiety, depression, and stress subdimension, where the mean score of the DASS-21 scale is 14.79 +/- 12.72, were determined as (4.67 +/- 4.48, 4.98 +/- 4.96, 5.13 +/- 5.05, respectively). It was found that the mean scores of participants with FA were higher than those without FA, and the difference between the groups was determined statistically significant (p < 0.05). Practice ImplicationsThe rates of DAS of students with FA were found to be higher compared to those without FA. In the treatment of FA in clinical services, nurses and other health professionals should identify and treat psychiatric comorbidities associated with FA, such as depression and anxiety.

Post-Traumatic Growth, Mindfulness, and Quality of Life in Liver Transplant Recipients: A Cross-Sectional Study
(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), 2025) Demir, Bilsev; Bulbuloglu, Semra; Kayaoglu, Kubra
Purpose: This study aimed to examine post-traumatic growth, mindfulness, and quality of life in recipients after liver transplantation. Design and Methods: This study employs a descriptive and cross-sectional design. We collected data in an organ transplant center affiliated with a research and application hospital in Eastern Turkey. The sample in our study included a total of 292 liver transplant recipients. We collected data using a personal information form, the Post-Traumatic Growth (PTG) Inventory, the Mindfulness Scale (MS), and the Quality of Life Questionnaire (QoL) Short Form (SF-36). We performed data analysis using descriptive statistical methods and one-way analysis of variance. Results: Of the liver transplant recipients, 72.6% were between 45 and 64 years of age, 72.3% were female, and 56.5% had undergone liver transplantation more than 1 year prior. Liver transplant recipients scored between 64.89 and 97.85 on the negative subscales. Recipients scored between 32.70 and 44.72 on the positive subscales in QoL SF-36. The PTG and MS mean scores were 62.43 ± 20.31 and 62.35 ± 7.14, respectively. There was a positive correlation between positive QoL sub-dimensions and MS and PTG (p < 0.05). Conclusions: We found a positive and strong relationship between PTG and mindfulness; in addition, we found that an increase in both had the effect of improving QoL. We recommend developing strategies that increase PTG, and that mindfulness be performed to improve QoL among patients following liver transplantation. © 2025 by the authors.
