Öğe Evaluation of the effect of mindfulness on stress and self-efficacy in patients with substance use disorder: a cross-sectional survey(Taylor & Francis Inc, 2023) Kayaoglu, Kuebra; Tanrikulu, Ali BaranAimsThis study was conducted to determine the effect of mindfulness on stress and self-efficacy in substance use disorder.MethodsThis descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted with 131 patients with substance use disorder. Personal Information Form, The Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS), The Self-Efficacy Scale (SES), and The Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) were used during the data collection process.ResultsA high level of negative correlation was observed between the MAAS and the PSS levels (r: -622, p < .01). The predictor variable of mindfulness was found to be explaining 48% of the variance in the dependent variables of self-efficacy and perceived stress (R2: .480, p < .001). A high level of positive correlation was observed between the MAAS and the SES levels (r: 550, p < .01). The predictor variable of mindfulness was also found to be explaining 30% of the variance in the dependent variable of self-efficacy (R2: .302, p < .001).ConclusionIn this study, the patients with high conscious awareness were found to have low levels of stress and high levels of self-efficacy. Clinicians should regularly implement procedures that improve the mindfulness of patients with substance use disorders.Öğe Evaluation of the effect of motivational interviewing interventions on treatment motivation and psychological well-being in patients with substance use disorder: a randomized controlled trial(Taylor & Francis Inc, 2025) Kayaoglu, Kuebra; Tanrikulu, Ali BaranBackground Although there are many evidence-based clinical studies examining the effect of motivational interviewing (MI) on substance use rates and relapse in substance use disorder (SUD), it has not been adequately explained how motivational interviewing affects the nature of the disease. Objective This study was conducted to examine the effect of MI on treatment motivation and psychological well-being of patients with SUD. MethodsThis was a randomized controlled study, including 74 patients who were diagnosed with SUD. Patients were allocated either to a combination of MI and treatment as usual (intervention group, n = 38), or treatment as usual only (control group, n = 36). Personal Information Form, Treatment Motivation Questionnaire (TMQ), and the Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWB) were used to collect the data. Results TMQ subscales scores and PWB scores were significantly higher in the intervention group when compared with the control group after three weeks of treatment. Conclusions Our results showed that MI interventions significantly increase psychological well-being and treatment motivation in patients with SUD (p < .05). MI interventions may be used along with other treatments by psychiatric nurses and other mental health professionals in patients with SUD.Öğe Evaluation of the relationship between values and psychological resilience of individuals diagnosed with substance use disorder: A cross-sectional study(W B Saunders Co-Elsevier Inc, 2023) Ozer, Duygu; Altun, Ozlem Sahin; Kayaoglu, Kuebra; Tanrikulu, Ali BaranThe purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between values and psychological resilience in in-dividuals with substance use disorder. This descriptive and correlational study was conducted with 70 in-dividuals diagnosed with substance use disorder who had applied to the Alcohol and Drug Addiction Treatment and Research Center between February and April 2022 and volunteered to participate in the study. The data were collected using the Personal Information Form, Values Scale, and Brief Resilience Scale (BRS). All participants were male, the average age of substance use onset was 17.67 +/- 5.95 years, and they had been receiving addiction treatment for 1.97 +/- 2.30 years on average. The average total score of the individuals on the BRS scale was 17.18 +/- 1.45. A significant positive correlation was found between the social values, intellectual values, spiritual values, materialistic values, human dignity, and freedom sub-dimensions of the Values Scale and psychological resilience (p < .001). Additionally, spiritual values were found to have the highest positive effect on the psy-chological resilience levels of individuals (B = 0.185; p < .05). Individuals with higher levels of social values, intellectual values, spiritual values, materialistic values, human dignity, and freedom were found to have higher psychological resilience. Nursing care provided by taking into account the values of the individual and strengthening their values may contribute to the psychological resilience of the patient.Öğe Examination of internalized stigma, quality of life, and happiness in patients with schizophrenia(Taylor & Francis Inc, 2024) Kayaoglu, Kuebra; Ay, EdaBackgroundHappiness in patients with schizophrenia is a neglected concept that needs to be developed. Determining the relationship between internalized stigma, quality of life, and happiness, which is important for the prognosis of schizophrenia, will reveal why it is necessary to focus on activities that will increase happiness in patients with schizophrenia.AimThis study aimed to compare the levels of internalized stigma, quality of life, and happiness in patients with schizophrenia.MethodsA descriptive and correlational research design was used. The research population consisted of patients who applied to the psychiatry outpatient clinic of a hospital in eastern Turkey during the research period and were diagnosed with schizophrenia according to the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria; 87 voluntary patients who agreed to participate in the study constituted the research sample. A personal information form, the Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness Scale (ISMI), the World Health Organization Quality-of-Life Scale (WHOQOL-BREF), and the Subjective Happiness Scale (SHS) were used for data collection.ResultsAccording to the patients' ISMI, WHOQOL-BREF-TR, and SHS scores, patients perceived internalized stigma above the moderate level in all sub-dimensions. In general, their quality of life was moderate (the highest mean score was on the national environment domain and the lowest mean score was on the social domain); the mean SHS score was 13.02 +/- 5.53. There was a strong and negative correlation between the mean SHS score and the total ISMI score and a strong and positive correlation between SHS and the physical, mental, social, and national environment domains of WHOQOL-BREF-TR.ConclusionsIt was determined that the mean internal stigma score of the patients decreased and their mean quality of life score increased as their mean subjective happiness score increased. It is recommended clinical studies be carried out to increase happiness in patients with schizophrenia.
