Öğe Acute changes in postural stability during Instagram Reels viewing using virtual reality-based posturography(Frontiers Media Sa, 2026) Korkmaz, Hanifi; Tok, Yasin; Alkahtani, Rania; Alsaleh, Hadeel; Elbeltagy, ReemShort-form video platforms such as Instagram Reels deliver continuous high-visual-flow stimulation that imposes substantial visual-cognitive load even in the absence of active motor interaction, yet their impact on postural control remains largely unexplored. This study examined whether passive Instagram Reels viewing acutely alters postural stability in healthy adolescents and young adults, and whether addiction severity and habitual use patterns modulate this effect. Regular Instagram users aged 16-21 years completed virtual reality-based static posturography before and during passive Instagram Reels viewing (i.e., viewing short-form, algorithm-driven video content without active user interaction such as scrolling or screen contact). Instagram addiction severity and usage habits were assessed, and their associations with viewing-related postural changes were evaluated. Vestibular-related postural stability decreased during Reels viewing. Higher Instagram addiction severity and longer daily Instagram use were associated with smaller reductions in vestibular-related postural stability between pre- and during-viewing conditions, a pattern compatible with partial habituation and/or compensatory postural control strategies. The purpose of Instagram use was not meaningfully associated with the magnitude of change. Passive short-video exposure can acutely compromise vestibular-related postural stability even during quiet standing, while habitual exposure appears to attenuate the immediate destabilizing effect. These findings extend smartphone-balance research toward a more ecologically relevant exposure model and provide a reference framework for future studies in clinically vulnerable populations, future studies in clinically vulnerable populations, such as individuals with vestibular disorders, neurological conditions, or balance impairments.Öğe Addiction in Adolescents from Past to Present: A Bibliometric Analysis(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2024) Tok, Yasin; Cumurcu, Hatice BirgulThis research aimed to examine the basic and conceptual structure of the research area about addiction in adolescents by examining studies in an international index (Web of Science (WoS) database: SCI-Expanded, SSCI, AHCI, ESCI) through bibliometric analysis. Research on addiction in adolescents has been examined using bibliometric analysis and mapping techniques. Accordingly, a total of 5558 studies from the WoS database were analyzed in line with the criteria for inclusion. Although there were partial decreases in some years for adolescent studies about addiction, the general progression was increasing. Regarding resource categories, first were addictive behaviors, followed by drug and alcohol dependence. Although smoking is related to substance use, it differs from other types of addiction. In addition, Internet addiction, one of the behavioral addictions, are among the strong research themes. University of Pittsburgh produced most institution-based publications, and the USA was the country with most publications and most cited publications in the world. Research about adolescent addiction focuses mostly on substance abuse/use and psychiatry disciplines. Since publications in the research area are not within the limits of Lotka's law, authors in this research area need more publication productivity for two or more publications.Öğe Effectiveness of Educational Practices for Early Childhood Problem Solving Skills: A Meta-analysis Study(T.C. Milli Egitim Bakanligi, 2023) Tok, Yasin; Sağlam, MehmetThe aim of this study is to determine the effect of educational practices designed in experimental research on children’s problem solving skills for the children aged 3-6 years attending pre-school education. In this context, a total of 1012 master’s/doctorate theses, of which 321 with the original scans and 691 supplementary scans, were examined between 1987-2021 (October) in Turkey. When the studies were examined according to the criteria, it was determined that 27 theses were suitable for meta-analysis.In the study, descriptive statistics data, publication bias, heterogeneity and effect sizes were analyzed with the Comprehensive Meta-Analysis Version 2 program. It was concluded in the analyzes that there was no publication bias and that the effect sizes of the studies had a heterogeneous distribution. When the effect of experimental education practices on children’s problem solving skills was analyzed in the random effects model, it was found that the effect size value was in favor of the experimental group. The obtained value shows that the educational practices designed in the experimental research for children aged 3-6 in preschool education have a higher level of effect on children’s problem solving skills compared to the Cohen d classification. When the moderator analysis results are examined, for the overall effect size; while reaching the conclusions that the age group of the children and the type of preschool education institution they attend, the type of thesis study, the department and university in which the thesis was made, the year the thesis was made, was’nt moderator; The institute where the thesis was made was found as a moderator variable for the overall effect size. © 2023,Milli Egitim. All Rights Reserved.Öğe Investigating the correlation between 2D:4D finger digit ratios and attention gathering skills of 60-72 month-old children(Elsevier Ireland Ltd, 2023) Uzun, Gokce Bagci; Tok, YasinBackground: Digit ratio 2D:4D is used to follow children's development process and examine behaviours and abilities. Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the correlation between the 2D:4D digit ratios of 60-72 month-old children and their attention gathering skills, as well as whether the 2D:4D digit ratio and attention gathering skills of children differ based on independent variables. Method: The sample of the study, designed in the correlational survey model, consisted of a total of 112 children aged 60-72 months who were attending preschool education in Malatya province in Turkey. The data were analysed using SPSS packaged software. Results: It was determined that there was a positive low significant correlation between attention gathering skills and the right hand 2D:4D digit ratio in 60-72 month-old children. In addition to, no significant difference was found between the children's FTF-K scores and the right hand 2D:4D digit ratio in terms of the variable of mother's status of exercising, but there was a significant difference between their FTF-K scores and the left hand 2D:4D digit ratio in terms of the variable of the mother's status of exercising. Conclusions: The findings of the study demonstrate the importance of the study for revealing clues about children's attention gathering/concentration levels from their early periods, and promoting their attention gathering skills and generally their cognitive development.Öğe The Trends and Hotspots of Research on Adolescent Pregnancy: A Bibliometric Analysis(Springer, 2025) Pehlivanoglu, Seyma; Celik, Osman Tayyar; Tok, Yasin; Saglam, MehmetThis bibliometric study aims to contribute to the literature on adolescent pregnancy by exploring gaps, research trends, contributing countries and journals, collaboration networks, and subject themes, offering a macro perspective on the field's development and future directions. This study employed a bibliometric research methodology. Publications containing the keywords adolescent, adolescence, youth, teenager, puberty, juvenile, pregnancy, and pregnant were retrieved from the Web of Science (WoS) database (1980-April 24, 2024) and analyzed using VOSviewer and the open-source R bibliometric package, adhering to predefined inclusion/exclusion criteria. The concept of adolescent pregnancy has been studied annually from 1980 to the present, peaking in 2022. Key research topics include sexual and reproductive health, contraception, and depression. According to Lotka's Law, 84.7% of authors in this field have published only once. Recent studies have focused on birth weight and pregnancy risks. The most cited publication globally and locally is by Ganchimeg et al., while the Journal of Adolescent Health is the most productive platform. The United States, Brazil, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Canada, and Turkey are the most productive countries in this field. The results of this study highlight that adolescent pregnancy remains a global public health issue, as evidenced by its consistent presence in annual research. Key research gaps and trends include social and emotional challenges faced by pregnant adolescents, physical development and health during adolescent pregnancy, causes and prevalence trends, preventive education services, and psychosocial interventions. Further research is essential to develop effective interventions for preventing adolescent pregnancy and safeguarding the best interests of children.
