Öğe A corrosive oesophageal burn model in rats: Double-lumen central venous catheter usage(Medknow Publications B9, Kanara Business Centre, off Link Road, Ghatkopar (E) Mumbai 400 075, 2015) Bakan, Vedat; Çiralik, Harun; Kartal, SeyfiBackground: We aimed to create a new and less invasive experimental corrosive oesophageal burn model using a catheter without a gastric puncture (gastrotomy). Materials and Methods: We conducted the study with two groups composed of 8 male rats. The experimental oesophageal burn was established by the application of 10% sodium hydroxide to the distal oesophagus under a pressure of 20 cmH 2 O, via 5-F double-lumen central venous catheter without a gastrotomy. The control group was given 0.9% sodium chloride. All rats were killed 24 h after administration of NaOH or 0.9% NaCl. Histologic damage to oesophageal tissue was scored by a single pathologist blind to groups. Results: The rats in the control group were observed to have no pathological changes. Corrosive oesophagitis (tissue congestion, oedema, inflammation, ulcer and necrosis) was observed in rats exposed to NaOH. Conclusion: We believe that an experimental corrosive oesophageal burn can safely be created under same hydrostatic pressure without a gastric puncture using this model. © 2016 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.Öğe Idiopathic Chronic Cholecystitis with Delayed Diagnosis During the Early Childhood Period(Derman Medical Publ, 2016) Kafadar, Mehmet Tolga; Bakan, Vedat; Inan, AydinToday, bile stones are increasingly common in children. Hemolytic disorders and ceftriaxone use are commonly implicated as risk factors, although approximately half of the cases are idiopathic. Patients at risk should be closely followed for bile stones and their complications. The majority of childhood cases are asymptomatic, and most asymptomatic cases are diagnosed by routine ultrasonographic studies. It is, therefore, imperative to perform periodic ultrasonographic studies in cases with hemolytic disorders. In this paper we report the case of a 2.5-year-old child with idiopathic chronic cholecystitis treated with laparoscopic cholecystectomy, who received a delayed diagnosis after a 2-year history of abdominal pain. We also provide a review of the relevant literature. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy should be the first choice in the treatment of pediatric gall bladder diseases as it yields better cosmetic results, is less painful, and patients regain daily activities earlier.Öğe Rectus sheath hematoma in a macrosomic neonate following difficult delivery. Case report(Soc Argentina Pediatria, 2018) Gunduz, Suzan; Kara, Semra; Aktas, Ayse; Eren, Abdulkadir; Bakan, VedatMacrosomia is a risk factor for birth injuries and is associated with neonatal morbidity and mortality. Cephalohematoma and clavicular fracture are the most frequent birth injuries. Intraabdominal injuries are uncommon birth injuries. Rectus sheath hematoma (RSH) is an accumulation of blood in the sheath of rectus abdominis muscle. It is associated with trauma, operations and anticoagulant therapy, especially in adults and elders. We present a macrosomic male neonate with difficult vaginal delivery, who had in the physical examination periumblical ecchymose of 1x1 cm and a parietal cephalohametoma of 1x1 cm. The abdominal ultrasonogram and the computed tomography scan of the abdomen showed a 7x4x2 cm right rectus sheath hematoma.
