Effect of meditation music and comedy movie interventions on postoperative kinesiophobia and pain in patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty
(Wiley, 2023) Cici, Remziye; Bulbuloglu, Semra; Kapikiran, Gurkan
BackgroundThis study aimed to investigate the effects of music and comedy movie interventions on postoperative pain and kinesiophobia in patients who underwent total knee arthroplasty. MethodsThis randomized-controlled study was carried out with the participation of patients who underwent total knee arthroplasty. The patients were divided into three groups. To reduce surgical pain and kinesiophobia, the patients in group 1 watched a comedy movie, those in group 2 listened to music, and those in group 3 did not participate in any intervention other than the routine practices of the clinic. ResultsThe personal and medical characteristics of the patients in all groups were similar. The patients in all three groups were kinesiophobic, and their surgical pain levels were moderate despite pharmaceutical interventions. Groups 1 and 2 had a statistically significant decrease in kinesiophobia and pain scores after the interventions. The effects of having patients watch a comedy movie and having them listen to meditation music were not significantly different. ConclusionsThe results of the study showed that listening to meditation music or watching comedy movie scenes had significant positive effects in alleviating postoperative pain and kinesiophobia after TKA. Based on the results of this study, it is recommended that patients watch comedy movies and listen to meditation music to alleviate their postoperative pain and kinesiophobia. The effect of nurses' attitudes towards evidence-based nursing on the level of compliance with isolation measures in nurses caring for liver transplant patients
(Wiley, 2025) Gurkan, Kapikiran; Okutan, Serafettin; Aktura, Seher Cevik; Cici, Remziye
ObjectiveLiver transplant recipients are at a high risk of infection during the first month. Therefore, it is crucial to implement isolation measures correctly to prevent the spread of nosocomial infections. Evidence-based practices and proper implementation of isolation measures can significantly reduce morbidity and mortality. The study aimed to investigate the impact of nurses' attitudes towards evidence-based nursing on their compliance with isolation measures.MethodsThis is a descriptive study conducted between October 2023 and January 2024, with the participation of 137 nurses working in the organ transplant clinics of a university hospital in Turkey. Data was collected using a participant introduction form, the attitudes towards evidence-based nursing scale, and the compliance with isolation measures scale.ResultsThe mean total score for the scale of attitudes towards evidence-based nursing among nurses was 55.95 +/- 10.43 (15-75). Similarly, the mean total score for the scale of compliance with isolation measures was 71.44 +/- 13.53 (18-90). Both scores were above the middle level. The study found a moderately significant positive correlation between attitudes towards evidence-based nursing and compliance with isolation measures (r: 0.670, p: 0.000). The regression model showed that the attitude towards evidence-based nursing explained 44.9% of the positivity towards isolation measures (R2 = 0.449).ConclusionsThe study found a positive correlation between nurses' positive attitudes towards evidence-based nursing and their compliance with isolation precautions when caring for liver transplant patients. This highlights the significance of evidence-based nursing in patient care and the importance of adhering to isolation measures to prevent nosocomial infections.

The Effects of Comedy Movies on Preoperative Anxiety and Postoperative Pain in Patients Who Have Undergone Abdominal Surgery: A Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial
(Wiley, 2025) Kapikiran, Guerkan; Bulbuloglu, Semra; Cici, Remziye
This randomized controlled pilot study, which involved 176 patients, aimed to evaluate the impact of comedy films on preoperative anxiety levels and postoperative pain in patients undergoing abdominal surgery, as well as the feasibility of this intervention. While the patients in the control group did not undergo any intervention other than routine clinical interventions, the patients in the experimental group watched a comedy movie for 25 min. The pretest anxiety score of the experimental group was found to be 57.48 +/- 6.09, while the posttest anxiety score of the same group decreased to 37.35 +/- 8.10 after watching a comedy movie. The difference between their pretest and posttest anxiety mean scores was statistically significant (Cohen's d: 4.20, 95% CI: 27.8124 to 32.4603, p: 0.000). The mean pretest and posttest pain scores of those in the experimental group were 4.99 +/- 1.24 and 4.76 +/- 1.33, respectively (Cohen's d: 2.72, 95% CI: -24.6459 to -19.7858, p: 0.003). It was concluded that watching a comedy movie, which is an inexpensive and effective method, reduces preoperative anxiety and postoperative pain in patients undergoing abdominal surgery and provides important information necessary for the design of more precise studies in the future.

The Relationship Between Postoperative Spiritual Well-Being and Sleep Quality and Comfort in Patients Undergoing Lung Cancer Surgery in Türkiye
(Wiley, 2026) Cici, Remziye; Ozdemir, Ahmet; Kizilkaya, Gulnaz; Saritas, Serdar
This study was conducted to determine the relationship between postoperative spiritual well-being and sleep quality and comfort in patients with lung cancer. This descriptive, relationship-seeking study was carried out at the Thoracic Surgery Clinic of a university hospital in T & uuml;rkiye between February 1 and July 31, 2023. The sample consisted of 252 patients who had undergone lung cancer surgery and were selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using a Personal Information Form, General Sleep Quality Scale, Spiritual Well-Being Scale, and General Comfort Scale. In statistical analysis, number, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test in independent groups, one-way ANOVA, Kruskal-Wallis, and Mann-Whitney U tests. The Pearson correlation test was used to determine relationships between scale score averages (p < 0.05). The patients ' mean spiritual well-being score was 119.15 +/- 12.35, their mean sleep quality score was 42.97 +/- 19.73, and their mean general comfort score was 2.58 +/- 0.40. While a low positive relationship was found between spiritual well-being and sleep quality (r = 0.217, p = 0.01), no relationship was found with comfort (r = -0.110, p = 0.88). Patients exhibited high levels of spiritual well-being, reasonable comfort, and moderate sleep quality. Higher spiritual well-being was associated with better sleep quality, while no significant association was observed between spiritual well-being and comfort. These findings underscore the importance of integrating interventions that support spiritual well-being to achieve improved sleep outcomes in patients.

The Relationship Between Preoperative Cyberchondria Levels and Death Anxiety of Liver Donors
(Wiley, 2025) Cici, Remziye; Topdemir, Esra Anus; Kapikiran, Gurkan
This descriptive and correlational study aimed to investigate the relationship between preoperative levels of cyberchondria and death anxiety in liver donors. It was conducted with 158 liver transplant donors hospitalized in the organ transplant clinics of a Liver Transplant Institute in eastern Turkey. The total score for the death anxiety scale was high (9.97 +/- 2.29), while the cyberchondria scale had a moderate mean total score (44.98 +/- 5.86). A moderately significant positive correlation was observed between the total scores of the death anxiety and cyberchondria scales (r: 0.427, p: 0.000). The death anxiety variable was found to account for 18% of the cyberchondric tendencies observed in the donors (R2: 0.182). It was observed that individuals who became living donors while still alive and without any problems experienced high levels of death anxiety. In this situation, donors conducted their research on the internet, resulting in above-average levels of cyberchondria and the training and information provided by the transplant teams. Effective donor education and psychosocial support can reduce both death anxiety and cyberchondric tendencies in liver transplant donors.
